It’s no secret that the Medicare Advantage program has always offered excellent benefits for qualifying beneficiaries. From the $144 Give Back benefit to the $900 Grocery benefit, Medicare Advantage plans can make life easier for beneficiaries who live on fixed incomes. While these benefits do a great deal of good, providers of Medicare Advantage plans are still constantly looking for ways to improve their offerings.
This is why, starting with 2023 Medicare plans, many insurance companies are combining crucial benefits into one easy-to-use debit card. This new Medicare bonus payment will offer up to $3300 in valuable assistance to beneficiaries who live in qualifying areas.
At MedicareInsurance.com, we developed the Benefits Breakdown series to help you learn more about the benefits available to you through the Medicare Advantage program. Today, we’re going to break down the new $3300 Medicare benefit.
Odds are good that, if you’re reading this article today, this is the first time you’ve heard of this exciting new benefit. It’s probably left you wondering, “What is the $3300 Medicare benefit?”
The $3300 Medicare benefit, referred to by some insurance companies as the Medicare bonus benefit or the Healthy Options allowance, is part of a new initiative to make many crucial Medicare Advantage benefits easier to use for beneficiaries. In essence, the new benefit combines previous Medicare benefits into one card. Some of the benefits combined into this new benefit include:
Instead of having two separate cards for groceries and over-the-counter medications and supplies, eligible beneficiaries can now receive a single flex card worth up to $3300 to cover:
It’s important to know that this new Medical assistance benefit will not be available with all plans. It’s also important to know that plans eligible for the new benefit are not offered in every state. In order to be eligible for the new benefit, you must first live in a state or area where Medicare Advantage plans carry the new benefit.
If you live in a state or area that offers such Medicare Advantage plans, you’ll need to research and compare to find a plan that offers a variation of the benefit that works for you. Some insurance companies may offer different versions of the new benefit that provide less fiscal assistance than others.
Once you’ve found a plan that meets your needs, you’ll either need to enroll (if you’re new to the Medicare program) or switch from your existing plan. If you’re new to Medicare, you can enroll in a plan that offers the new benefit during your Initial Enrollment Period. If you’re looking to switch your plan, you’ll need to wait until one of other enrollment periods, such as the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, to do so, unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

I am 72. I live in Tallahassee, Florida and participate in a plan here, Capital Health. I do have a $400.00 allowance feature (annual). My plan costs me and my wife $58.00 a month, for the two of us. We each have had a major health situation and paid very little out of pocket. Would it pay to change to another plan to get a larger supplement; would there be larger premiums etc.
