You can get great coverage for medical and healthcare services and treatments with Original Medicare – Medicare Parts A and B. Original Medicare provides coverage for many healthcare-related expenses, but it doesn’t cover everything. In fact, three of the healthcare services most commonly used by seniors – vision, dental, and hearing care – aren’t covered by Original Medicare. This means you’ll have to pay for those services out of your own pocket.

Learn More About Medicare Plans near Chandler, Arizona
Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare offer many of the same benefits, but they are actually two different types of plans. Original Medicare is offered by the federal government and slightly limited in what it can or cannot cover. Medicare Advantage is offered by private insurance companies who are authorized to do so by the federal government. Because Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private companies, they often offer benefits that Original Medicare does not.
That doesn’t mean that the coverage you receive with a Medicare Advantage plan is unlimited. These plans have their limitations as well! No two Medicare Advantage plans are alike, and the benefits that they offer can change depending on the company offering them and the area in which they’re being offered.
We’ve included a list below of some of the typical treatments and services that Medicare Advantage plans cover:
- Meal delivery services
- Transportation to and from medical appointments
- Dental, vision, and hearing care

When Can I Enroll in a Medicare Plan?
Contrary to popular belief, you can’t enroll in Medicare plans year-round. To sign up for a Medicare plan near Chandler, AZ, you’ll need to wait for one of three enrollment periods. Even if you want to make changes to your plan, you’ll have to wait for an enrollment period to do so.
The first period during which you can sign up for a Medicare plan is your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP). IEPs last seven months, starting three months before you turn 65, running through the month of your birthday, and ending three months after your 65th birthday.
If you missed your IEP, you can enroll in a Medicare plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). The AEP takes place from October 15 through December 7 every year.
Those of you just looking to make changes to your plan can do so during the annual Open Enrollment Period (OEP). Like AEP, OEP takes place during a fixed time period each year, running from January 1 through March 31.
Sometimes, life can get in the way of your opportunity to enroll in a Medicare plan. From relocation to natural disasters, there are certain distractions that can delay your chance to sign up for Medicare. If you’ve gone through such life events, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). SEPs also open up if a 5-Star Medicare Advantage plan becomes available near you.
Wanting to learn more about Medicare enrollment periods? Curious about 5-Star Medicare plans? All it takes is a quick phone call to connect with a licensed agent that can answer your questions.
