Get the Medicare Coverage You’re Looking For in the Fresno, CA Area
It’s no secret that Original Medicare, Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B, provides good coverage for those of you who have it. However, you’re also probably well aware that Original Medicare doesn’t cover every service or treatment that you need.
Odds are very good that you’ve heard of Medicare Part C, also known as Medicare Advantage. It’s possible, though, that you haven’t really looked into Medicare Advantage plans. This could be chalked up to a few different reasons:
- Confusion about the coverage that these plans provide
- Negative information about Medicare Advantage plans
- Feeling that the coverage may not match up to what you already have
Here’s the truth: Medicare Advantage plans certainly aren’t for everyone, but they can be very beneficial to anyone. For one, they often offer coverage and benefits that Original Medicare simply cannot provide. Here’s an example, let’s say you need new glasses. Original Medicare doesn’t pay for vision care, so you’ll be paying for those out of your own pocket.
With a Medicare Advantage play, you may not have to worry about covering that cost. Many Medicare Advantage plans offer coverage for vision, dental, and hearing care. In other words, a Medicare Advantage plan may help you pay for new glasses!

What Can Medicare Advantage Insurance Cover?
As they are regulated by the federal government, Medicare Advantage plans are required to provide the same coverage available through Original Medicare. These plans, however, are not provided by the federal government. Medicare Advantage plans are instead provided through private insurance carriers who have been lawfully authorized to do so.
Not all Medicare Advantage plans are created equal. The coverage that’s available to you can vary depending on where you are and who’s carrying your plan. You can usually get the following coverage and benefits with most Medicare Advantage plans:
- Dental, vision, and hearing care
- Transportation to and from medical appointments
- Allowances for Over-the-Counter (OTC) medications and supplies
- Prescription drug coverage
- Fitness support and reduced-cost gym memberships through SilverSneakers
Remember, some Medicare plans near Fresno may not offer all of the benefits listed above. However, you may be able to find Medicare Advantage plans in the Fresno, CA area that offer some, most, or all of the above. Medicare Enrollment Periods: A Primer
Like any other health insurance, Medicare enrollment doesn’t have a rolling year-round enrollment process. You can only enroll in Medicare plans during certain times.
The first period during which you can sign up for Medicare is known as the Initial Enrollment Period (IEP). IEPs open up when you first become eligible for Medicare, typically as you’re turning 65. IEPs run for seven months, beginning 3 months before your 65th birthday and ending 3 months after.
The second takes place yearly between October 15 and December 7. This is the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), and it allows you to enroll in a Medicare plan if you were unable to do so during your IEP. The third, known as the Open Enrollment Period (OEP), also takes place each year, between January 1 and March 31. During OEP, you can make changes to your existing Medicare Advantage plan.
If you missed any of the above enrollment periods due to certain life events, such as relocation or illness, you may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). SEPs allow you the opportunity to enroll in a Medicare plan outside of the typical enrollment periods. SEPs may also open up if a 5-Star Medicare Advantage plan becomes available near you.
