Medicare Advantage Plans are Available In Little Rock, AR

Little Rock is an excellent retirement destination for seniors for a variety of reasons. One of the reasons you might look to retire to the Little Rock, AR area is the abundance of quality healthcare. There are many excellent providers here that accept Medicare assignment, meaning a Medicare plan will cover many of the services and treatments that you need.

If you have Original Medicare, however, there are certain services that the plan will not cover. For example, if you’re in need of eyeglasses or a new hearing aid, Original Medicare will not cover the costs for these items. You’ll need to pay for them Out-of-Pocket.

So, why would you need to pay for glasses or hearing aids Out-of-Pocket if you have a Medicare plan? Original Medicare does not provide coverage for dental, hearing, or vision care. If you need dental, vision, or hearing treatments or services, you’ll need to pay for these Out-of-Pocket each time if you have an Original Medicare plan.

Medicare Part C plans, also known as Medicare Advantage plans, typically offer coverage for all of the above, plus more. If you’d like to know more about what kinds of coverage Medicare plans near Little Rock may offer, give us a call today. Our experienced licensed agents will be happy to answer your questions!

What Kind of Coverage Does Medicare Advantage Provide?

Original Medicare, Medicare Parts A and B, is a government-provided form of health insurance for seniors that offers great coverage. However, it doesn’t cover all medical treatments and services that you may need. There are different Medicare plans, all offered by private health insurance companies, that are designed to fill in the gaps of Original Medicare coverage.

These plans include:

  • Medicare Part C Medicare Advantage plans
  • Medicare Part D Prescription Drug coverage
  • Medigap supplemental insurance

Medicare Advantage plans are private health insurance plans, so they can cover more and offer more benefits than Original Medicare. However, not all Medicare Advantage plans are designed the same. The coverage and benefits that you receive depend on where you live, who you’ve purchased your coverage through, and – in some cases – your income level. This is why it’s a good idea to search for and compare Medicare plans near Little Rock, AR.

Medicare plans in the Little Rock, AR area may offer any of the following:

  • Dental, vision, and hearing care coverage
  • Transportation to and from medical appointments
  • Allowances for Over-the-Counter (OTC) medical supplies
  • Allowances for OTC medications
  • Stipends for healthy groceries and prescription drugs

A Note on Medicare Enrollment Periods

You may believe that Medicare enrollment is a rolling, year-round process. Like any other health insurance plan, you can only enroll in a Medicare plan during specific times of the year. These are known as enrollment periods.

The first enrollment period is known as your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP). Your IEP takes place when you first become eligible for Medicare, typically around your 65th birthday. The IEP lasts for seven months: it starts three months before you turn 65, runs the month of your 65th birthday, and ends three months after you turn 65.

Each year, from October 15 through December 7, Medicare holds what is known as an Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). If you missed your IEP, you can enroll in a new Medicare plan at this time.

From January 1 through March 31 annually, an Open Enrollment Period (OEP) takes place. This time period is open primarily for current Medicare beneficiaries to make changes to their current plans.

If you missed the above enrollment periods because of certain life events, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Common life events that can trigger an SEP to open for you include relocation or illness. You may also qualify for an SEP if a 5-Star Medicare Advantage plan opens in your area.
