Just as soon as it arrived, the 2022 Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is coming to a close. The Annual Enrollment Period, which started on October 15, is set to end on December 7. As many medical insurance and Medicare beneficiaries know, AEP is a perfect time to enroll in a Medicare plan or switch coverage.
With AEP ending in just two weeks, some of you may feel the need to scramble in order to enroll in a medical insurance plan for extra protection, even if it doesn’t meet all of your coverage needs. Finding a Medicare plan that meets all of your needs is a decision that shouldn’t be made in a hurry! Two weeks is plenty of time to research and compare in order to find and enroll in a Medicare plan that’s perfect for you.
Today, we’re here to help guide you through the last days of AEP for 2022. There are still plenty of Medicare Part A or Medicare Part B (Original Medicare), Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage), or Medicare Part D plan (prescription drug plan) options out there waiting for you. All you need to do is find the right insurance company, and we’re pretty good at helping you do that!
There are numerous decisions in life that shouldn’t be made in haste. However, three in particular are more important than the rest once you reach your senior years. They are as follows:
A common misconception when it comes time to enroll in Medicare is that all plans are built alike. Many believe that all Medicare plans provide the same coverage, and therefore, it’s okay to wait until the last minute to enroll because you know what you’re getting. This is not the case.
Finding a quality Medicare plan that works for you takes planning and research (which our Medicare Enrollment checklist can help you with). If you rush the enrollment process, you may end up choosing a Medicare plan that doesn’t meet all of your needs. When this happens, you’re usually be stuck with that plan for at least a full year*.
Having just two weeks left in this year’s AEP, you may not feel like you have a lot of time to plan, research, and compare. Trust us – two weeks is more than enough time to search around and compare Medicare options to find a plan that’s best for you. In fact, you can use our free plan finder too below to compare Medicare plan options in your area today. Just enter your zip code, and you’re good to go.
*This does not account for the possibility that you may end up becoming eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) outside of the Annual Enrollment Period for 2022.
Absolutely not! If you’re currently enrolled in a Medicare or Medicare Advantage plan that’s working for you, you have no need to worry. You do not have to switch plans during AEP if you’re happy with your current coverage. Also, once you choose a plan, you can keep it if you so choose as long as your coverage continues to be offered in your area; you will never have to renew it.
The only time you’ll need to worry about enrolling in a new plan is if your current plan becomes unavailable to you for some reason. Some of the most common reasons that you may need to enroll in a new Medicare plan during an enrollment period include:
If this happens outside of this year’s AEP, no worries. You’ll likely be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that allows you to sign up for a new plan outside of AEP.
Whether you’re new to Medicare or you’re looking to switch plans, AEP is a great time to find quality Medicare coverage. With a little bit of planning and willingness to research and compare Medicare plans, you’ll find options over the next two weeks that’ll work for you.
