What benefits does Medicare Advantage offer?

Medicare Advantage plans offer the same coverage as Medicare Parts A and B, and act as a replacement for Original Medicare. However these plans, which are provided by private insurance companies, also often include additional benefits such as:

  • Vision coverage for contacts and eyeglasses
  • Dental coverage for routine cleanings and tooth replacement
  • Hearing coverage for hearing exams and hearing aids
  • Coverage for transportation costs to and from doctor’s appointments

The best way to choose a Medicare Advantage plan is to carefully review each plan available in your area before enrolling. Since each plan is different, some may cover certain procedures or types of treatments others don’t cover.

When can I enroll in Medicare Advantage?

Many people enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan whenever they first become eligible for Medicare, whether that is when they turn 65 or they qualify because of a disability. However, if you did not enroll in Medicare Advantage during your Initial Enrollment Period, you do have options for changing or increasing your coverage.

Whenever you first enroll in Medicare, you may choose to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan instead. If you already have Medicare coverage but want to change to a Medicare Advantage plan, you can also do so during the Annual Enrollment Period at the end of each year. During the Open Enrollment Period from January 1 – March 31, anyone who has a Medicare Advantage plan is able to make changes to their coverage and switch to a new plan. Additionally, if a 5-star rated Medicare plan is available in your area, you may be able to switch to that plan at any time, at least once per enrollment period.

If you want help determining your eligibility for enrollment, or if you’d like to find out if a 5-star Medicare Advantage plan is available in Jacksonville, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team of experts.
